15.Jun.2010 Light Graffiti Spotlight – June 2010 – Aaron Bauer

Name: Aaron Bauer
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

How did you get into light graffiti?
I was living with a friend that was into spinning wool.  He took me out one night, and that’s all it took.  I was addicted!  After joining Flickr.com, I was able to see what other light painters were doing and their technique.  It’s amazing what’s out there in the light graffiti world.  Different styles, different tools, different locations – it’s all inspiration!

Describe your work/style in three words:
Red, Green, Blue

Who has influenced you and your work?
Blaisone, Tackyshack, TCB, Digicord, Captain Blithering, Dinah!

What are some interesting projects you’ve worked on?
Collaborating with Blaisone. I had scouted an area by the White River, and it was three square tunnels side by side.  Graffiti webbed inside and out of the tunnels and it was dark.  A few bums had built a camp about 20 yards from the entrance to the tunnels.  They had a nice little set up going on there.  Blais flew in from Alaska in April.  We drove down to the spot with a couple other people.  We geared up with as many lights and equipment as we could carry and hiked down the steep inclines.  A night of spinning wool and trying out my new light toys I had finished right before he got here. The pictures turned out great, and we all had a blast.

What are some of your upcoming projects?
I’d like to get to some caves in southern Indiana for some LP fun.  Incorporate some strobe and a couple new light toys I’m working on.

Do you have any advice for people who want to get into light graffiti?
LED’s, wireless remote for your camera, and dark locations

Why do you love spotlight?
Spotlight is great.  When I’m out taking photos and rummaging through my bag, I have a spotlight around my neck.  When I am looking through the lens and figuring out my boundaries, I’m using my spotlight.  They are small and powerful.  You gotta love ‘em!

Who do you want to give a shout out/big ups to?
Blaisone, Dinah!, and TackyShack
